Meet Roxie...
Roxie is one of four in our herd that have been retired by the Equine Department at the University of Minnesota.
Roxie is a very special mare and the only horse on the ranch that can spin and track with cattle, she loves to move and would prefer a rider who enjoys a brisk pace rather than a leisure stride.
She, very much like her herd brother Comanche, is a horse of layers. It takes time to build her trust and time to understand her moods. She's a quick little mare, who prefers a slow handed handler.
When she's not serving kiddos in sessions, she spends most of her days in the East Paddock hanging out with her BHF (Best Horse Friend) Comanche. The two of them remind me of the typical brother sister combo that swings from annoyance to attachment and back again. Side by side at a bale Roxie can't help her self from picking on poor Comanche, but as soon as Comanche has been called up to work in the barn, she waits by the gate, sometimes even swaying, anxious to be reunited again so she can stand by his side at the bale and nip him in the hinney.
Roxie is owned by a private party and generously leased to us for our youth mentoring sessions. While we aren't responsible for all of her care she still needs a team to help cover his basic needs.
By choosing to sponsor Roxie, you can further ensure her quality care, AND a cost-free ranch experience for the children who visit us and know this ranch as THEIR place.
